To be honest, I doubt Eddie would give two fudge eating midgets over what we say. Maybe he and Roth don't get along well as people (still). Maybe Roth and Van Halen see different directions (creative) and thus can't stay together). Maybe Roth doesn't want the job. Maybe the jam with Cherone was incredible. Who knows? Eddie's going to do what makes him happy, not what a few Internet geeks like us want. Being a Sammy Hagar fan before his Van Halen days, I was excited at the prospect of him joining the band and was elated when it was announced he did. In the meantime, I was a faithful follower of David Lee Roth having bought every album except for the most recent. Edward Van Halen is the greatest guitar player alive and he is a great composer as well. I have never met him so I can't say anything about him as a person. What I will say is that I am extremely turned off by what has been going on. Whether Sammy quit or was fired, whether Dave was ever considered as a permanent replacement, or whether Cherone is the new lead singer, I don't care anymore. All I ever wanted from the band was their side of the story, not SRO's, not Ray Danniel's, not Warner Bros.', not Scotty Ross' or Valerie Bertinelli's, I want to hear it straight from EVH. It's his band, he makes the calls. I can't understand the secrecy behind this, you would think he was hiding something. At this point, two three or four months after Hagar left, I've gotten to the point where I really don't care if Van Halen slips off the face of the Earth. Even if they have decided (which I doubt), it would not be in their best interests to announce it before the release of the new album, unless of course it was Dave. I haven't heard anything about the Brian May offer to Gary Cherone. I've tried checking the Queen web pages but they aren't up-to-date... In times like these I wish I was still on the Queen list. Most people here know I'm a Dave era fan but I tolerated Sammy. I also love Extreme, but never liked Gary's singing. I never thought I'd say it, but if Dave ain't coming back for good, I'd rather they call Sammy. Well, that's all. I feel better now that I can play golf with a clear head. Now I can go back to thinking "oh oh I'm gonna slice it now, I just know it!!!" BTW to all that have emailed me the E! I also said earlier today that I would not buy any more VH material if "Hole-hearted" (or is it Hole-headed) Gary Cherone was named as the new vocalist. This was also misinterpreted. I did not make these remarks with the intention of indicating that the band owed me (or any other fan) anything for my 18 years of monetary support and blind fanatical obedience. They do not owe me squat. At the same time, I do not owe them squat. I was merely stating the fact that this has gone too far this time. If Warner Bros. is teasing us with David Lee Roth in hopes to sell millions of copies of the GH, only to announce later that Cherone is the new singer, that is dirty politics and bad public relations.
