Why do you think so many people called the Sammy era Van Hagar (I never did, but I understand why they did it). Dave was most definitely a part of VH's "sound" during his time and so was Sammy!!!! Just because the vocals are *ADDED* last, doesn't mean they are *WRITTEN* last. I'm sure there are many, many songs with both Dave and Sam where they heard the music and said to themselves, or to Ed, 'hey this perfectly fits these lyrics I had written'. Get the point? Also, if you listen to how Ed and Sam *both* describe their songwriting process (when they were both saying *nice* things about each other ;)), they describe it as *very* interactive....emphasis on interactive. For me, and I'm sure many, many VH fans out there, Dave and Sam's "sound" was just as much a part of the VH sound as Ed's guitar.
