I'm sick of seeing negative comments about the new record, so I'm on a personal mission to get as many people on my floor at work to listen to "3" and report back to me what they think (It's kind of neat hearing "3" wafting from a couple dozen offices at the same time!). So far, 100% of everyone who's listened has had a positive reaction to what they've heard. This is good. The kicker... The mp3's disappear from my server in two days, so they have to go buy the record if they want to continue listening. That was the deal. I really wonder if the doom and gloom club spamming the record has actually listened to it? Guess not.... WRIF has one concert a year, usually at Pine Knob or the Palace, and hypes it as their B-day Party and this year it's gonna be with Van Halen! . They added the band "Addict" (or Attic, I didn't really hear it that well) to open before Kenny Wayne and VH. Also, all week long, WRIF is giving away free tickets (today's winner received 3rd row seats) to the show! Stay tuned to the WRIF!! Tickets go on sale this coming Friday at all Ticketmaster outlets and the Palace and Pine Knob box offices at 10:00am. I almost drove off the road trying to turn up the radio in my truck when I heard the commercial playing "Fire In the Hole". Then right after the advertisement, they played "One I Want". Later in the morning/afternoon, during "High Noon" they played "Unchained" from the Live At the 10 Spot recording!! I was friggin floored!! They said it was a rare track from the "WRIF rarities" collection. Regardless, after hearing all of this shit today all I can say is.....BRING ON VAN HALEN ONE MORE TIME!!! WHOO HOO!! The F.U.C.K. album was definitely one of the best albums VH put out. Anyway, I like III but I do think that in the future that a different producer would be a good thing for the best qaulity album. - Matt Fourman ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 15 Jul 1998 14:05:09 PDT From: "Brian Glotzbach" Subject: Re: Denver pre show >From: "Ellingford" >To: >Subject: Denver pre show >Date: Tue, 14 Jul 1998 21:49:55 -0600 >Reply-To: vanhalen@sonic.net > >Okay, > >All you VHMLers out there coming to the Denver show, I wanted to give a >shout out to you all. During the concert we tried unsucessfully to get a banner on stage. After the concert we hung around til everyone cleared out. Matt then lead us to a balcony behind the stage, where a bunch of people were hanging out. While waiting there, one of the security guards came and escorted some people to meet with the band. It was beginning to look like we weren't going to be sucessful in meeting the band. About this time my wife managed to catch the attention of someone by the name of Kevin. She asked him if he would take the banner and give it to Val, whom we had seen waiting just off stage during the concert. He agreed and told us to wait there. A few minutes later he comes walking out with Val, and someone else (this turned out to be Gary, I just couldn't tell from my angle.) The security guard made his way to us, and escorted us down to meet with Val and Gary. This was really cool as we were able to meet and talk with them for a few minutes. I told Gary that the show was fantastic, he asked if I was on the list, and we talked for a minute, then I shook Val's hand, and told her that her son was cute. My wife then walked and talked with Val for a few minutes. We tried to get pictures, but everyone was out of film. Gary agreed to sign a few things, and so my wife pulled out her ticket stub and he signed it. Val told Gary to come back inside or she would get in trouble, if she went back by herself. Gary and Val were very down to earth. If Val hadn't been there Gary probably would have stayed, I think that's why she came out with him, to make sure he made it back. It was very cool for them to come out and meet us, we didn't expect it. It made our concert experience complete. Thanks go to Matt Z., and my wife for getting us back there to meet Val and Gary. Since numerous other people blow off steam on the VHML, so will I ( and I don't do it very often) First, the meet and greet thing. I remember back in January this year when an announcement was made regarding Meet and Greets and to send an e-mail. Well, I send a reply... and got nothing. Getting a meet and greet for Sammy Hagar was way easier than this. I have tried to e-mail numerous VHML notables about Meet and Greets and received nothing but roadblocks from them. I am a bit honked off that some folks seem to think that pretending/ignoring is the best way to deal with fellow VHML'ers questions/concerns regarding stuff like Meet and Greets. Not very professional in my opinion. Another thing, for those VHML'ers sending me e-mail and information regarding what has transpired with Meet and Greets: a big thank you! All I want is answers, and I seem not to be getting any from some very visible VHML people regarding meet and greets. Second, I am supposed to be co-writing a concert review (for the upcoming Indy Deer Creek show on 7/22) with a friend of mind for the Indiana Daily Student, Indiana University's student newspaper. Well, we planned to do that. However, we have had numerous fustrating attempts to call SRO management, some top VHML'ers, and a few others folks who ARE privy to information on how to set up phone interviews with a member of Van Halen. We have tried for months now. The fact that my friend was able to have one of her staffers interview Mick Jagger on the phone with great ease and not be able to get any cooperation regarding a possible VH member interview is in my humble opinion very sad. Heck, you would think that VH would be going for all the media exposure they can get. Now I find out the reality on how things really work regarding meet and greets and a phone interview for a newspaper. ( a lot of political bullshit in my opinion) Anyway, I think that some honesty and forthrightness would go a long way around here. - Matt Fourman ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 15 Jul 1998 17:38:08 -0400 From: Amanda Subject: Re: Meet and Greets/ YTD/OOIW Matt Fourman wrote: > First, the meet and greet thing.
