They talked about the Alpine Valley Show on Sat. and Ed mentioned that he had demos already for a new album to be released after the 1st of the year and a tour in the summer. During the live phone conversation Ed got another call and put our DJ on hold (live radio). Hilarious. Also our DJ told Ed that there are alot of requests for DirtyWaterDog in our area and Ed replied "Well shit, then play it!!!" He immediately realized that he said "shit" on live radio and apologized. He sound very fired up for the Alpine Show....can't wait 4 more days!!!! ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 2 Sep 1998 14:38:57 EDT From: Mrmust@aol.com Subject: Re: Highway D ... far enough west? I'd love to hear them do a record in 3 weeks, like Zep did with "Presence".I think VH needs to do a really raw,flat-out "rip your face off" type of record, especially after hearing them live on this tour:they're KILLIN'!!! I certainly hope that it's not that 2-3 year bullshit. I don't think the band can afford to be out to the limelight for that amount of time. With that in mind, I'd hope that they get right back into the studio after taking a short break. I hope that all of us on the VHML are sharing our tour stories again next summer. Louis in Dayton OH IRC Nick--PVWolfie ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 02 Sep 1998 09:15:33 -0500 From: Todd Kincaid Subject: VH DEBATE AT CLASS OF '88 REUNION As my wife's class reunion wound down last Saturday, two old friends from a younger class came up to me. Bill and Clint were huge Van Halen fans in high school and went to concerts with us a lot. They were weaned with Sammy era VH playing in the background and they're very loyal and enamored with that hit-making chapter in the VH story. Clint is a recent disciple to the new stuff and dragged me into their argument about the new VH by asking me what I thought about the show in Atlanta. "I never saw them with David Lee Roth," I said, "but it's the best I've ever seen." Bill shook his head and said he saw the MTV show and that he thought Gary was mediocre at best and that he danced like a fag. I laughed and said I thought Gary definitely had a Freddie Mercury quality, but that he was no more effeminate than Rober Plant or Steven Tyler or Mick Jagger or Roger Daltry or Paul Stanley. If you rule out singers who prance a little, you're pretty much eliminating all the good groups. Then he said he just couldn't get over it, so I told him to go outside and let Clint fuck him in the ass, which would help him get over his homophobia. I told him that once he tried it, he'd probably realize he was heterosexual anyway and wouldn't be so hung on Gary's tight fitting clothes. He laughed but persisted. Then Clint accused Bill of being a fair weather fan and Bill went into this long speech about how he was a Georgia Tech fan from way back. Then I told Bill to apply the same principles of loyalty to his love of VH. Let's say for the sake of argument that the new VH is only half as good as Sammy era VH, I said. It's still better than anything else out there. Then, Bill tried to argue that the lead singer didn't matter and that a monkey could sing for VH and it wouldn't make any difference. So I said, "Then why don't you like it?" He was totally frustrated and didn't want to talk about it anymore. Later, he tried to convince me how good the Yanni concert was. This only proves my point that people who don't like the new VH decided it sucked before they ever heard it. I know this is a long and relatively pointless story, but I just wanted to share how I managed to have a VH moment at my wife's class reunion--at which, incidentally, the horribly underqualified DJ didn't play a single VH song. It was a few years back ( '93 maybe? ). Hocus Pocus is a cover of an old tune by the group Focus. He also does a hellacious "Linus & Lucy" ... from the Charlie Brown cartoons.
